1½ cups powdered sugar
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
2½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
Mix in the vanilla and egg. Stir in the flour, baking soda
and cream of tartar. Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours.
Heat the oven to 375°F. Divide the dough into fourths. On a lightly floured surface, roll each fourth,
one at a time, until 3/16" thick. Cut with cookie cutters and place on a parchment covered baking sheet.
Bake for 5 - 7 minutes, or until edges are light brown.
Cool and frost with Royal Icing.
